What other information should I know?
Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor will order certain lab tests to check your response to prednisone. Checkups are especially important for children because prednisone can slow bone growth.
If your condition worsens, call your doctor. Your dose may need to be adjusted.
Carry an identification card that indicates that you may need to take supplementary doses (write down the full dose you took before gradually decreasing it) of prednisone during periods of stress (injuries, infections, and severe asthma attacks). Ask your pharmacist or doctor how to obtain this card. List your name, medical problems, drugs and dosages, and doctor's name and telephone number on the card.
This drug makes you more susceptible to illnesses. If you are exposed to chicken pox, measles, or tuberculosis (TB) while taking prednisone, call your doctor. Do not have a vaccination, other immunization, or any skin test while you are taking prednisone unless your doctor tells you that you may.
Report any injuries or signs of infection (fever, sore throat, pain during urination, and muscle aches) that occur during treatment.
Your doctor may instruct you to weigh yourself every day. Report any unusual weight gain.
If your sputum (the matter you cough up during an asthma attack) thickens or changes color from clear white to yellow, green, or gray, call your doctor; these changes may be signs of an infection.
If you have diabetes, prednisone may increase your blood sugar level. If you monitor your blood sugar (glucose) at home, test your blood or urine more frequently than usual. Call your doctor if your blood sugar is high or if sugar is present in your urine; your dose of diabetes medication and your diet may need to be changed.
Do not let anyone else take your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.

long term side effects?
my mother is elderly and has multiple myeloma (cancer type). she has been taking prednisone for almost a year i believe. there are two physical problems that she is having right now and i am trying to understand if they are related to long-term prednisone use:
1) her teeth are causing her many problems; she has had to have multiple pulled and has had a dry socket problem with two; she has taken several rounds of antibiotics to eliminate the infection, which has taken a long time.
2) she has leg compression per her general doctor. i don't know if this is totally unrelated or this is a "muscle problem" caused by long-term prednisone use.
does anyone have information that can help to better understand what she is experiencing and how it relates to prednisone??
thank you,

birth control
I'm on ortho tricyclen and was on prednisone about 3 weeks ago. I'm wondering how long prednisone stays in one's system. I was only on it for about 5 days. I'm worried about it interacting with the birthcontrol.

Anzathiaprine, Cyclosporin and Prednisone
I am currently taking Anzathiaprine, Cyclosporin and Prednisone!
I have been on Prednisone and Anzathiaprine for almost 9 years. They have finally tried to use others but I am scared of the enlarged gums and apparent hair growth that come with using Cyclosporin.
I have 'Auto Immune Haemolytic Anaemia' (a rare blood disorder). They've removed my spleen and tried treating with Rituxan.
Is anyone else on Cyclosporin and wants to chat or has 'Auto Immune Haemolytic Anaemia'?

Prednisone in children??
Prednisone dampens the immune system and can lead to severe medical issues if not taken correctly. I have been on it for excema. Excema is like an alergic reaction of the body attacking itself or something being sucreted by the body. Prednisone works by an increase of corticoids in the system. This in affect lowers energy, increases hunger, etc. I've delt with the side effects, and being young, I feel I was more suseptible to the affects than now, when I am older. But one needs to be weened off of the drug for many reasons, and I think the best way to explain is to show the examples of what can go wrong with the drug.

Have a good day.
