Norethindrone- Ending Therapy
Hello,
Can anyone tell me (generally) how to come off the Norethindrone drug? Is it stopped cold turkey when the Lupron shot wears off (I have endometriosis), or gradually?
I'm supposed to get another Lupron Depot shot this week. However, I can't refill my prescription before having a meeting with my Dr. who isn't available until 8/17. I'm planning to stop the therapy (I've been on it for 9 months), but I'm afraid of sending my hormones into orbit by not stopping the Norethindrone correctly.
Any information on Norethindrone stoppage would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Sarah

Norethindrone Questions
I have been on Nor QD for about 3 years and loved having no periods. But I changed jobs/insurance and the new ins did not pick up any of the cost for NorQD. When I went to my new doc (because I don't need birth control) she suggested I try Norethindrone pills which I have just started taking.
My question is will it continue to stop my periods, will there be an adjustment time where I will have some bleeding, should I expect anything different from being on Nor QD because of the Norethindrone being a higher mg (5mg comp to .35mg) comparitively, acne? weight gain? What experiences have others had on this pill?
Thanks

I am taking norethindrone for endomitriosis and have been for 3 years now. Since I have been taking the drug, I haven't had a cycle at all. My Dr.s aren't concerned, and I haven't had any other problems at all (if missing menstral cycles is indeed a problem). I'm perfectly content to go thru life without the monthly visitor. I just make sure I have my yearly checks, and all has been well. Every once in a while I'll get cramps, but no cycle, that's about it. All is well.

Nor-QD
Hi Liz,
I have a history of blood clots too (some sort of gene thing) and I've never heard of being put on Norethindrone for birth control (though I am on it for Endometriosis, and its caused Acne, weight gaina and a full face).
For the clotting, I have to take a full aspirin a day and when pregnant, I will be considered "high risk" but will only have to take one heparain shot a day. I can't image that you can't have kids just because of the clotting issue, but maybe your condition is more serious than mine (I actually got a massive clot in my leg while traveling to asia and it shut down 60% of my lungs before they caught it, but not I'm mostly better).
Sorry I can'be of more help and best of luck.
Sarah
