Ketoconazole, when taken by mouth, can cause severe and perhaps deadly liver damage. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: fatigue, loss of appetite, upset stomach, vomiting, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or pale stools.Do not take terfenadine (Seldane), astemizole (Hismanal), or cisapride (Propulsid) while taking ketoconazole. Taking these medications together with ketoconazole can cause serious irregular hearbeats, which if untreated could lead to death. Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. Your doctor will order certain lab tests to check your response to ketoconazole.
