Curious to know if anyone has been treated with Biaxin for Lyme? and if so - was it successful?

Hi SotickofLYme. Biaxin is often prescribed for Lyme disease. Many times it is prescribed with Plaquenil because I believe it helps the Biaxin to work more effectively. Although rare, I believe Plaquenil can cause eye problems and you should have an exam before taking it. Ask your doctor about this combination.

Hi SotickofLyme. I have not been on Biaxin, but I know that many people who have Lyme take it. I have not heard of anyone having heart problems. Definitely talk to your doctor about possible side effects.

I was on biaxin with mepron for a while cause I could not tolerate the oral zithromax. I back-slid myself right into a week stay in the hospital. Went to IV Z and rocephin with mepron, have been doing fine ever since. But I also have BabsWA1, so that could be a reason why it didn't work for me right there. One of my best friends was on it, Biaxin, for a while and it worked for him, so you really can't say for sure who it will work for.

Acording to my llmd biaxin is not generally one of his first choices unless you can't tolerate Z or Doxy. In theory the mechanism by which it works is sound, but in practice it will really depend on how your body reacts to it. My advise, courtesy of my llmd, give it a while and if you don't make any progress, ask for something else. Something elase he also said about biaxin was that it is generally gentler on you body, whatever that is supposed to mean. any long-term antibiotics are not great for a immune system but not treating Lyme properly is even worse.

But I'm also not a doctor, so if you are really having problems or concers about your medications and dosing talk to myou doctor or if he is not Lyme literate, find one who is. It's worth it to spend a little time to find a good doctor and get your questions answered.
