| I have been using Amoxicillin for about 5 days, and in the last couple of days have developed stomach cramps and very watery diarrhea.

I called the doctor's office today and they told me to discontinue it and call if it persists or if the original ailment does.

Tonight I noticed the stool, was very red, quite like blood (I've seen this on many web searches as a potential side effect). I called the doctor's office again, and they suggested waiting till morning. It's quite alarming...how concerned should I be? Are there any short- or long-term concerns with this having happened?

Thanks,
Lindasko |

| Why are you on Amoxicillin? I have been on Amoxicillin for the past 7 days, and I too experienced very painful cramps and bloody stool and diarrhea on the 5 day. I am going to the doctor today, hopefully they can shed some light on it. |

| It's a long time since I posted...sorry I never saw your reply.
For what it's worth, I was on it for an ear infection. Considering the doctor I saw at the walk in clinic (not my regular GP) seemed to think it was amazingly rare, I find it interesting that you, too, had the same reaction.

I guess like allergies you can develop reactions to things that didn't bother you before? I've used Amoxicillin once or twice over the years, without any problems.

The doctor just told me to discontinue use, and to use Imodium for a day or two. |
