What other information should I know?

Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. You should have a complete physical exam, including blood pressure measurements, breast and pelvic exams, and a Pap test at least yearly. Follow your doctor's directions for examining your breasts; report any lumps immediately.

If you are taking hormone replacement therapy to treat symptoms of menopause, your doctor will check every 3 to 6 months to see if you still need this medication. If you are taking this medication to prevent thinning of the bones (osteoporosis), you will take it for a longer period of time.

Before you have any laboratory tests, tell the laboratory personnel that you take hormone replacement therapy, because this medication may interfere with some laboratory tests.

Do not let anyone else take your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.

Estrace questions
Here's my situation:

I'm a 17 year old transgender female who is currently 5 days on Estrace (4mg daily) for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). I am also on Spironolactone (200mg daily) for an anti-androgen.

I'd like to know of any substances I should avoid that might decrease the effectiveness of the said drugs, especially information regarding the actual effects of alcohol and caffeine.

Alcohol is bad for obvious reasons, since this hormone regimen is an awful stress on my liver, but does it actually alter in any way the effectiveness of the drug? I have also heard rumors that caffeine can slow the effects of it, but the only evidence I have found states that caffeine actually RAISES ones estrogen levels substantially (500mg caffeine daily, or about 5 cups, yields 70% higher estrogen levels in the average person, regardless of gender.)

I've also searched for any form of base website on Estrace, but have turned up empty-handed. Do they have a website that describes what to do and what to avoid once on a regimen?

Norethindrone- Ending Therapy
Hello,

Can anyone tell me (generally) how to come off the Norethindrone drug? Is it stopped cold turkey when the Lupron shot wears off (I have endometriosis), or gradually?

I'm supposed to get another Lupron Depot shot this week. However, I can't refill my prescription before having a meeting with my Dr. who isn't available until 8/17. I'm planning to stop the therapy (I've been on it for 9 months), but I'm afraid of sending my hormones into orbit by not stopping the Norethindrone correctly.

Any information on Norethindrone stoppage would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sarah

Muscle Cramps
I've been prescribed Triamterene for water retention from estrogen for menopause. I've been taking for 2 weeks and suddenly have developed severe upper back/shoulder muscle contraction. Any possibility this is a side effect? Thanks.
