Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide

What side effects can this medication cause?
Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- cough
- dizziness or lightheadedness
- taste changes
- rash and/or itching
Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:
- swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- hoarseness
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- fever, sore throat, chills, and other signs of infection
- yellowing of the skin or eyes
- dry mouth
- thirst
- weakness
- lack of energy
- restlessness
- muscle pains or cramps
- infrequent urination
- upset stomach
- vomiting
- fainting
- chest pain
- rapid, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

Why does my doctor insist?
My GP wants me to change from current anti-hypertensive which works OK for me (I got generic captopril for months), to Valsartan (Diovan here). I don't want to feed the big companies and prefer to look for cheaper good quality alternative. What do you think I should do? ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

generic lisinopril
You may consider asking your physician if Lisinopril w/ Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) would be right for you. If you are having water retention, the HCTZ can offset that by having the kidneys get rid of excess water and salt through the urine. I have been taking Lisinopril/HCTZ combo and have not had any problems. It's been wonderful to be back to normal. I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hypertension at age 23. It was unexplainable how, but this drug has changed my life.
